Miliary Options

To enlist in any branch of the military:

  • You must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien.
  • You must be at least 17 years old (17-year old applicants require parental consent).
  • You must (with very few exceptions) have a high school diploma.
  • You must pass a physical medical exam.
  • You must pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test (ASVAB). Score requirements vary from 31 to 36 depending upon the branch of the military.
  • Note: some branches limit occupational fields for females.
  • Note: students who participate in high school JROTC can enlist at a higher rank and pay grade than students who do not.

To join a college-level ROTC program, students should:

  • have a well-rounded high school background showing participation and leadership in academics, extra-curricular activities, community activities, and athletics.
  • take the ACT plus Writing and/or SAT.
  • apply during Fall of senior year to increase chances of being selected for an ROTC scholarship (up to $200,000).
  • Note: students who complete a college ROTC program can enlist in the military as officers.

To be accepted to one of the five US Service Academies, students will need to meet some or all of the following requirements:

  • be a U.S. citizen or naturalized citizen.
  • be at least 17 years old by July 1st of the year you begin.
  • not be married, pregnant, or have a legal obligation to support any children.
  • pass a physical medical exam and have 20/20 vision after corrections.
  • do very well on the OK College-Prep/Work-Ready curriculum.
  • take additional math classes such as Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.
  • take the ACT plus Writing and/or SAT (27 is the average ACT acceptance score).
  • have a well-rounded high school background showing participation and leadership in academics, extra-curricular activities, community activities, and athletics.
  • obtain a nomination from a Congressman during your Junior year (except US Coast Guard Academy).
